Welcome to Your New OS!

Congratulations! You are now the owner of a computer running Lubuntu Linux. Unlike Windows or macOS, this system is open. That means you have total control. You can't "break" it—and if you do, you can always learn to fix it.

🚀 The Basics

  • Desktop Click the Bird Icon (bottom left) to find your apps
  • Internet Look for the Firefox icon
  • Writing Open LibreOffice Writer (works like Microsoft Word)
  • Files Click the folder icon (PCManFM) to see your stuff

💻 The "Magic Box" (Terminal)

In Linux, the real power happens in the Terminal. This is where you talk directly to the computer's brain. If the GUI (clicking icons) is like being a passenger in a car, the Terminal is like being the mechanic under the hood.

# How to open the Terminal:
Press: Ctrl + Alt + T

3 Commands to Start:

  • neofetch Shows a cool logo and all the stats about your computer
  • whoami Confirms you are the "Root" user of this machine
  • ls Lists everything inside the folder you're currently in

🛠️ Installing New Gear

Want a new app? You don't need a credit card or an App Store. Use the Terminal!

# Step 1: Update your system (checks for latest stuff)
student@gnroot:~$ sudo apt update

# Step 2: Install something fun
student@gnroot:~$ sudo apt install cowsay

# Step 3: Try it out!

Pro tip: When typing your password after sudo, you won't see any letters appear—that's a security feature! Just type and press Enter.
